In an incredibly serene and beautiful ceremony, thousands of people came out tonight and silently promenaded around temples throughout the city (and presumably the country), carrying candles and flowers. This photo was taken at Wat Chedi Luang in the center of the walled city, where there was a particularly large crowd. Devotional music completed the mood.

At one point (and I'm embarrassed to even tell this story) I knelt down to take a photo of the temple, and one of the walkers saw me. Trying to be helpful, he stopped to allow me to finish the photo. Everyone else stopped behind him - I'd managed to stall the entire ceremony. I sheepishly waved them on and decided it was time to put the camera away for a while.
