These places a half-block away from the previous picture ("Shore Leave in Chinatown") don't have restaurants behind them; the kitchen is right on the street. Correspondingly, the food is a bit better here because it's cooked under the scrutiny of potential customers (which also ensures better hygiene practices). Westerners tend to choose the places with hidden kitchens, while locals go for places like this.

In the daytime this area is unrecognizable from the photo. It's just a plain sidewalk, without any tables, chairs, or cooking facilities. Everything gets carried out here late each afternoon and back away again at the end of the night.
