In the absence of any Israeli representation in Malaysia, the US serves as a proxy target for placards and shrill sloganeering. The protest is a response to Israel's ongoing attack on Lebanon, in which hundreds of innocent and uninvolved civilians are being killed in retribution for the kidnapping of a small number of Israeli solders. Even after the rocket attacks on Haifa, Israel's action remains disproportionate.

Still, as tragic as the events in Lebanon are, I found the tone of this protest to be pretty hypocritical - you can be sure none of these people were out protesting after the bombings in Madrid or London, which were just as deadly as Israel's actions.
